Cairnpapple Hill
east of Torpichen, north of Bathgate
Cairnpapple Hill is an ancient monument dating back four thousand years or more and was used as
a ceremonial and burial site for pretty much all that time up to a thousand years ago.
It's located east of Torpichen, south of Linlithgow and north of Bathgate not far from Beecraigs Country Park.

This looking north.
Open to the public (for a fee) from May to September and otherwise accessible on foot but not, sadly, by anyone who can't climb rough steps and a muddy path.

It's a burial cairn surrounded by other ancient graves and when open to visitors the interior is accessible.
The views, even from ground level, are magnificent.
This is looking north-east and in this direction the Forth Bridges (all three of them) can be easily seen.
The roadside parking for a few cars is over the edge of the hill at the bottom of some steps at the end of the green (muddy) section of path.

This looking south. Even on this murky day in October the views are worth the climb.
