To the west of Donibristle House, Donibristle Chapel is now surrounded by new-build houses.
It was designed by Alexander McGill, completed in 1731 and became a Category A listed building in 1972.
This is an Episcopalian chapel and is primarily a place of worship and mausoleum for the Moray family, of Donibristle House the first of whom laid to rest here was Charles, first Earl of Moray, in 1735.
The Latin inscription on the front of the building (fourth photo) ends with:
“Charles and Anne, Earl and Countess of Moray, caused to be built in the 1731st year of the Christian era and the 5th year of the reign of George II.”
The chapel is now very tight among the trees and a full unrestricted views of the front is trending to impossible. There's a freely accessible public footpath alongside and a very helpful information board.
The last photo has the chapel in the left corner and Donibristle House and Stables to the right. Also just visible is St Bridget's Kirk on the shore at the far top right of the photo.
