Built in about 1510 or so by the Adairs of Kinhill, who had a castle near here (now all but disappeared) as well as the Castle of St John in Stranraer.

As you can see, the second photo shows the castle, looking north, with Portpatrick in the near distance and in the far distance Kilantringan Lighthouse about two and a half miles away.

The old railway line into Portpatrick was cut into the flank of the hill to flatten the slope down into the village.

There are three caravan sites nearby, the coastal path runs right by the castle and there's an information board or two nearby.
