Unveiled on 18th July, 1896 and created by James MacGillivray it's in bronze and sits on a base of Aberdeen granite on Irvine Town Moor alongside the River Irvine.

Below are two views of the front of the statue. It was initially not universally liked and was thought to be an unsympathetic interpretation.

The statue is set up to have Burns looking south towards Alloway, his birthplace, as interpreted in the third photo.

Burns worked in Irvine for a short time, in a heckling shed, preparing wool as part of the weaving industry. He seems not to have enjoyed it.
