Ravenscraig Castle

Ravenscraig Castle is on the seaside cliffs, east of Kirkcaldy. Originally planned and built by James II in 1460 it was intended
to be for his queen, Mary of Guelders.
Unfortunately James II died at the siege of Roxburgh (killed by one of his own guns) and the castle was never finished in either of their lifetimes.
James II and Mary’s son, James III, granted the still-unfinished castle to William Sinclair in 1470.
The platform in front of the castle was the planned location for the queen's grand hall, sadly not to be. Below the castle are Pathhead Sands on the Firth of Forth.
The castle is in the care of Historic Scotland, entry is free and as you can see there's good access and information boards.
