Torhouse Stone Circle near Wigtown

In the Bladnoch Valley about 3 miles west of Wigtown on the B733.
This is one of the best surviving monuments in the South of Scotland in an area rich in standing stones and burial cairns from pre-history.
In an excellent state of preservation it has 19 stones, all graded in height, with a line of three boulders in the centre and was once believed to be the tomb of a local king.
Not far away are the three stones of the Torhouse Stone Row, north of the road. In the last photo you can see both sets of stones in one photo and frankly it's hard to see any visual link other than proximity.
It's perhaps a little naughty to suggest they were used for dog-training, the owners guiding their dogs in and out of the ring of stones So we won't suggest it.
Easy parking and well-signposted.
