Douglas Cameronians' Monuments
There are two monuments to the Cameronians
in the village of Douglas, South Lanarkshire.

Next to St Bride's Church (shown in detail on another page) is a monument to the spot
where the regiment was raised on 14th May, 1689.
That's a statue of James Douglas, Earl of Angus the first colonel of the regiment, who died three years later while leading them into battle in Flanders.
This memorial was built in 1892 to mark the regiment's 200th year and was also the spot where the regiment was disbanded on the same date in 1968.
North-east on the far side of Douglas Loch is a second monument celebrating the service of the regiment in 1990.
There's also a third memorial nearby, this one to the Polish forces who fought for the Allies in the second world war. A link is below.
