The time of day was mid to late morning and not as per the Abbey clock; that's stuck at 12 noon. Or midnight?
Founded in the late 1100s by Tironesian monks with strong links to Kelso Abbey.
Much of the Abbey was destroyed during the Reformation, around 1560. The grounds are quite extensive but the gravestones keep reducing. in number. That's the Main Street along the right side of the last photo. The church in the Abbey grounds (Kilwinning Old Parish Church) is still in use.
The Abbey is free to access and there are many information boards and ample parking nearby.
