in Maybole, South Ayrshire
Currently gated while the masonry is stabilised.
These are the ruins of the Chapel of St Mary and a mediaeval parish church just over the road from an old cemetery.
Constructed by Sir John Kennedy of Dunure (a few miles away on the coast) in 1371 and later in 1382 a college of priests was founded to pray for him and his family.
(Collegiate refers to priests or nuns employed to pray for a benefactor rather than having any educational purposes.)
It's been a fine building with some quality architectural detail.
