King's Knot
Stirling Castle

The very well maintained garden under the castle rock to the south-west of Stirling Castle.

These were the Royal pleasure gardens below Stirling Castle and were laid out as early as the 10th century.

There were orchards, vegetable gardens and fish ponds.

Access and parking nearby are free.

The area fell into disuse but was restored in time for the Scottish Coronation of Charles I in 1633 and again in 1842 under the order of Queen Victoria. The current design and layout is probably not the same as back in the 17th century.

The smaller shape is called the Queen's Knot (Which queen? No idea.) and the gardens seem to have extended deep under the castle rock to the left of these photos.
